How to Wear Jean Jacket With Semi Formal Dress
Adding your Denim Jean Jacket to a Dress
To many of you, the thought of wearing your denim jean jacket over a dress seems silly! The jacket is a casual, masculine item while your dress is relatively fancy and feminine! But that's the whole idea of this trick. It's that yin/yang or opposites attract idea!!
Quote of the day: "You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar
Really your jean jacket is one of those clothing items that goes with everything. Just earlier, I showed how you can easily break up a monochromatic outfit by throwing a jean jacket on! But you tell me, what's your favorite way to wear it?
Donna (Blogette): I was so excited when Donna sent me this photo of herself in her denim jacket and dress.
She had just commented on our dresses from VIPme post, that she had bought quite a few new dresses recently. And then after guessing that I was going to combine our denim jackets with a dress, she wore this outfit to work yesterday!! I just love it when you readers send me your photos!!
Jodie's (50+) Outfit: When I think of my jean jacket, I rarely think of it as part of my outfit.
It's usually a last minute decision as I run out of the house! But since I would be using it like a blazer for this post, I decided to wear it with my slip dress. I just recently discovered this dress in my closet and have been trying to wear it more. I wore it here with my tweed jacket over it and here with my cardigan under it!
If you told me that I would be wearing a slip dress over the age of 50 a year ago, I would've told you that you were crazy! And I certainly don't believe that we have to indulge in every new trend out there. But the fact is, that if you already have one in your closet, then why not wear it this way?
Since the dress seemed somewhat fancy, I though another way to make it more casual was the shoes!
The espadrilles are truly a summer favorite shoe for all women. If you happen to be missing this essential item then let me be your influencer. Since wedges are usually a good heel for most of us, let me start with these or these. But if you are a true flats person, then these or these are just as cute!
Not that I needed to add in another trendy item, but I have been loving the choker necklaces lately.
Maybe because I seemed to have missed out on them the first time around? And some of you may balk at the idea of cutting off your neck with a piece of jewelry!
I can understand that, really, I can. But they are so gosh darn eye catching and inexpensive! Like this one would really bring the attention to your face instead of any other part of your body! Or if you like the wild items, then this one is grrreat (and reversible) !!
As for a little story about my jean jacket.
I've had this one for at least 10 years. When I bought it, I didn't want the normal style that everyone else had, so I snatched this one up at Nordstrom Rack! If you look closely, you can see this white stain by the lower pocket. I have no idea what it is, and it won't come out! I've vacillated with giving it away, but now I'm thinking about adding some embroidered patches! What do you think?

Nancy's (60+) Outfit: The funny thing is both my mom and Nancy chose their white dress for this outfit.
And the white dress is the perfect dress for the summer. That's why the three of us styled them last summer here, here & here! And really, all of those outfits from last year would look just as great this summer, don't you think?
Nancy chose this unique necklace to pair with the outfit.
The good think about a unique item, is that not everyone else has one just like you. The bad thing, is it makes it hard to show you similar items, ha ha!! But if you like red flowers, then this one might work. Or if it's the fact that it's longer, and you don't mind green, then this one is fun!
There was the worry that this color combination might look too Fourth of Julyish.
And I can see why that would come to mind, but I do think it's not the obvious red, white and blue. Besides, living in America, I guess it's not bad to wear our colors in our outfits!
But there are other colors for denim jackets! This one comes in seven different colors! And this one is in a moto style and pink. (I would have bought this in a second if it came in my size)
Red sandals are truly a perfect color for a summer shoe!
We all wore red sandals 2 years ago and tried to style them in a variety of ways!! For those of you who already have red sandals, what's your favorite color to wear them with? If you don't have a pair, I'm here to help! This pair and this pair are relatively basic, but here's some with a little more pizzazz!!

Charlotte's (70+) Outfit: Sometimes my mom knocks my socks off!!
Like with this hi-low hem dress! She made this dress probably 5 years ago, back before the hi-low hems were really huge! Now if you're wondering why you'd even want a dress with this kind of hem, I know what you mean. But it sure can add some fun interest to the dress. And besides, I always consider that the longer portion could be cut off down the road.
There are some other dresses with this hem that you may like. This one incorporates stripes which are everywhere right now! And this one reminds me of the one Nancy just received from VIPme.com
My mom chose yellow as her color of choice for her accessories and shoes!
I know mom loves this shade since her entire kitchen is also yellow!! But even if you're not the hugest fan of yellow, it certainly lightens up even the darkest outfits. I mean check out these earrings or these. Don't they just make you smile?
And here's a little secret about this denim jacket!
It was actually purchased in the boy's department. I don't always think of it myself, but it is smart to scour other departments for your clothing items. You may not realize it but the men's, boy's & girl's areas can have some items that work for you too!!
In fact one reader was just commenting that she bought a cute flower accessory at TJ Maxx not realizing it was a dog collar!! Now isn't that funny? But she took the cute flower off of it and attached a pin to the back to create a brooch! That's what I call creative!!
My mom doesn't love wearing flats with her dresses, but I think these yellow shoes look great!
We bought these peep toe, yellow sandals last year, and I'm surprised they are still available now! And I almost think yellow sandals are as versatile as red ones! Just look here, aren't these fun? Or for those of you who want a little sassiness in your shoes, these would fit the bill!

Now that you've seen 3 examples of using your denim jean jacket over different types of dresses, are you convinced it might work?
Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!
